ABOUT SATURDAY MORNING MEDITATIONS

Ven. Approachable for beginners as well as long-term practitioners who might like to reinvigorate their practice, these weekly, hour-long sessions lend regular support to combat laziness and procrastination. What could be better?! It’s a wonderful way to lend meaning to your life and to enjoy your weekend!

ABOUT VENERABLE AMY

She has spent a great deal of timeengaged in meditation retreats, study, teaching, and Buddhist center management and lived at Land of Medicine Buddha in 1992. Prior to studying Buddhism, Amy was a political fundraiser in Washington, DC and also worked for Mother Jones Magazine in San Francisco, California. She also trained as a hospice counselor during the peak of the AIDS epidemic in San Francisco and offers courses and retreats on death and dying and end-of-life care.

Amy also leads pilgrimages to Buddhist sites. See www.AmyMiller.com for upcoming pilgrimages.

Amy’s teaching style helps people connect with meditation and mindfulness in an effort to gain a refreshing perspective on normally stressful living.

She is also the co-author of FPMT’s Buddhism in a Nutshell. For more information on Amy’s teaching schedule and courses, see www.AmyMiller.com. Amy currently resides in Santa Cruz, California.

HOW TO PREPARE

Find a comfortable space at home where you won’t be disturbed. You may prefer a cozy chair or perhaps a meditation cushion. Either is fine. The meditation leader, Ven. Amy, will give a brief explanation on how to adjust your mental and physical posture. Then we will start with concentration meditation for the first half of the period. This will be followed by a short break to stretch our legs and make any needed adjustments. The second half of the hour will be guided meditation analyzing various topics of Buddhist philosophy – this helps us deepen our understanding of Buddhist teachings and how best to apply those teachings to enhance our everyday life.
